Because I want to know

I have a new poll up to the right. I would really like to know how you paid for your IVF(s). For those of you who read my blog regularly, you know we are paying cold hard cash for ours. Our insurance company will cover the u/s's, so that should wipe out a few hundred bucks, but the majority of it will come straight from our savings. I know that most infertility related things are not covered, so I am not complaining. (Well not totally) I feel blessed we can do this and have been able to be diligent in our savings. It will be hard to write that check, but we know when we finally get to meet our little one it will all be worth it!

So please, take a second and weigh in.

  1. We have been sooo fortunate, insurance has paid for 4 IVF cycles and my husbands insurance covered our 1st, so we have gone through 5 cycles and it's all been paid for. The only thing I have to pay for is the prescription co-pay and for the last cycle it maxxed out so my nurse supplemented me with some that she had and we paid for about $700 worth of it ourselves which is nothing. As you know, without insurance we'd be in the whole alomsot $150,000. We are blessed. FYI, I work for a public school system where we have this crazy generous insurance. I would not have been able to do this if it weren't for insurance. We just don't have the money...

  3. We have not gotten that far, but our RE has decided it is our only chance. We have been saving and saving for a house for our family.....looks like our plans will have to change, we will be paying for IVF with our house down payment.....if it doesn't work the first try we will be out a house and a baby...SCARY!
The really stupid think is that I live in Canada where we have free health care for EVERYTHING except for IVF. They say this will change in 5 years or so, but for now, canadians have to pay for IVF!!

  4. FYI-I checked the option "Cold Hard Cash" because that is what we did, but I wanted to let you know we went through a financing agency that made our procedure cost several thousand dollars cheaper with our RE office (it was a pre-negotiated pricing structure). Check it out if it is an option for you:

They were excellent and trouble free. We were able to pay the entire ARC fee the same month for IVF #1 and #2, but it ended up saving us about $3K/cycle.

  5. I've not taken your poll because I am from the UK and I am lucky enough to be receiving one cycle on the National Health Service, although it has been a long hard battle.

If we aren't successful on this cycle we will be paying for our next.

  6. We haven't done IVF yet, but if we do, it'll be cold hard cash... should I vote? ;-)

  7. We paid with credit card and then slowly paid off our balances (although after 10 cycles we now have a maxed out credit card!) We are lucky in Australia that we get a decent proportion back from Medicare which helped a lot.

  9. Man - it's hitting us hard! We'll be paying this off for the entire year. But, hopefully, in the end, we'll have a sweet, wonderful little one! Have you already started your shots? Big hugs!
